Street art legends. Art in the Park, 2014

About the Event

The kick-off for Site Projects’ 2014 series Catalyze + Celebrate: Commissions + Conversations, Art in the Park transformed a 16-year-old skate park next to the restored Coogan Pavilion in Edgewood Park into a massive collaborative mural and vibrant community hub. Local businessman and artist Lou Cox partnered with Site Projects to curate an impressive lineup of graffiti artists, led by pioneering hip-hop artist and Def Jam founding graphic designer Cey Adams.

Over the weekend of October 25, internationally renowned and local artists came together to create collaborative murals, while panel discussions explored street art’s history, influence, legacy, and reception, punctuated by the hiss of spray cans.

Participating artists included graffiti pioneers Tkid, Part One, and Dr. Revolt; new-school talent Queen Andrea, Muck, Chino, Alice Mizrachi, and Eric Adams; New Haven legends HI-Crew and Dooley-O; as well as Alberto Colon (Tenk2), Josh Griffin, Ivory, Page, Reo (HI-Crew), Eric Mikita, Jahmane West, Zeph Farmby, Ryan Cyr, and Dave Thomas.

Award-winning photographer Janette Beckman, known for her work in punk and hip-hop circles across the U.S. and Europe, documented the event.

This programming is made possible through our long-standing partnership with New Haven’s Parks Department, with whom we are proud to continue collaborating.
