ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Site Projects is pleased to have commissioned the artwork of renowned
Swiss artist Felice Varini for downtown New Haven. Seen by more than
100,000 people, Varini’s 110 ft. tall wall painting, Square with four circles,
is his first large-scale public artwork in the United States. The architectural
characteristics of the site, Temple Plaza, served as generators of his design.

Varini’s artwork challenges notions of perspective and visual perceptions.
The form and velocity of the figure are never stable, but rather shift
dramatically between geometric form and fragments depending on one’s
point of view.

Site Projects celebrates this novel experience through:
Sites.Camera.Action! A Film Shorts Festival.

We welcome all genres that address the theme.
(experimental, documentary, narrative, animated, etc.)

All appropriate films will be screened at the end of April 2011.
Please review the Terms and Conditions before beginning your project.

The Site

The architectural characteristics of the site served as generators for Varini’ s design.

Located in the heart of downtown
New Haven, Temple Plaza is a public
space in the middle of a block defined
by Chapel and Crown, Temple and
College Streets. This public space is surrounded by a diverse mix
of building types, including the
Shubert Theater and the Crown
Street Garage, which is owned by
the New Haven Parking Authority.

Temple Plaza enjoys active daytime and nighttime usage.

The competition favors simply-made films, but productions requiring automated and / or large equipment that block the flow of pedestrians will require permits from Dept of Traffic + Parking, City of New Haven. Filmmakers are responsible for obtaining the necessary permits. Site Projects does not condone destructive acts to any surrounding property or the artwork. Furthermore, buildings surrounding the plaza are privately owned and climbing on them is against the law. If such acts occur, the film and filmmaker(s) will be immediately disqualified from the festival.
